International schools in Marbella: choosing a school and a home

For a family moving to Marbella, the school decision can reshape the property shortlist. Start with your child’s learning needs and a realistic school place, then work out which home supports the whole family’s week.

A house can look ideal for a family while creating an awkward school week. The problem may be an unsuitable academic programme, children attending different campuses, or a return journey that works poorly with the parents’ day. Before a school name becomes a reason to buy a particular home, establish what it means for your child and for the way the household will live.

This guide considers four schools as starting points: Aloha College Marbella, Swans International School, The English International College and Laude San Pedro International College. Their published information helps distinguish programmes and locations. The next step is a direct conversation about the intended year group and entry date, rather than assuming that a well-known name or nearby campus guarantees a suitable place.

School enquiries and an initial property search can progress together. First keep the housing brief flexible enough to accommodate the educational decision. Once you have clarity on the school, its actual entrance and the daily timetable, narrow the property search with much greater confidence. The four catalogue homes later in this guide illustrate different layouts and areas, not verified school catchments.

Four schools: the first distinctions to clarify

Swans International SchoolGCSE/IGCSE, followed by IB DiplomaSeparate primary and secondary addresses · identify the right campus
The English International College (EIC)A-Level route in Sixth FormUrbanización Ricmar, Marbella East · confirm the programme for your child

Write the educational brief before the property brief

Begin with the child’s present school year, curriculum, working languages and intended move date. Include subjects they enjoy, any examinations already underway and the countries in which they may want to study later. For a younger child, the discussion may centre on settling in; for a teenager, continuity of subjects and assessment can be the deciding factor.

Do not translate a year-group label from one national system into another without the receiving school’s advice. Ask how placement will be assessed and what information the school needs. A conversation about the individual child is more useful than comparing institutions only by results, facilities or the range of nationalities in a brochure.

Give each sibling a separate entry in the brief. Two children may have different language needs or suitable entry points, even if the family hopes to use one school. Also discuss what the child wants to understand during a visit: classrooms, friendships, activities or simply how the first morning would work.

Aloha College: clarify the route through the later school years

Aloha College’s published address is in Nueva Andalucía. Its Sixth Form offers the IB Diploma and International A-Levels. That distinction deserves attention for families considering a move during the later school years: an international school label alone does not identify the programme a particular child would follow.

Ask which subjects can actually be combined for the intended entry year, how existing study would transfer and who will advise on the next educational step. If the family is undecided between programmes, request a conversation about the child’s strengths and interests. Do not infer that every pathway or subject is available to every applicant at any point in the year.

For the property search, Nueva Andalucía is a useful area to explore, but it is not a commute calculation. Pin the school entrance and each shortlisted home separately. Include the trip back after drop-off, a later collection after activities and the parents’ onward journey. A home can be in the same broad area and still produce a different daily routine.

Swans: check the campus before judging proximity

Swans publishes separate primary and secondary addresses: El Capricho and Calle Lago de los Cisnes. The school describes a British pathway through GCSE/IGCSE, followed by the IB Diploma. Use the appropriate campus in the housing brief instead of treating the school as a single point on the map.

This is especially useful when siblings are at different stages or a child will change campus during the expected period of ownership. Ask the school to explain the transition and the practical arrangements. Then test both journeys if they will affect the household. A convenient first year should not hide a foreseeable change in the family’s routine.

When looking at Sierra Blanca, the Golden Mile or nearby residential areas, separate the quality of the home from the ease of a school run. Consider the entrance used, places to stop, any walking section and who will collect the children. Those details need checking directly; an attractive view of the surrounding hills cannot answer them.

EIC: give eastern Marbella its own school-and-home search

The English International College lists its address in Urbanización Ricmar in Marbella, and its Sixth Form presents an A-Level route. For a family exploring the eastern side of Marbella, the school is a concrete reference from which to investigate suitable homes and the actual journey between them.

Before comparing houses in Las Chapas, Elviria or other eastern locations, confirm the educational stage and subjects relevant to your child. Ask how the school would handle a transfer from the current system and what a normal timetable looks like. If the move is near an examination period, discuss the timing directly with the school before setting a fixed relocation date.

The housing conversation should then extend beyond school. Map work, shopping, sport and the places where the family expects to spend weekends. An eastern Marbella home may fit that combination, but a broad location label should not replace the entrance-to-entrance journey. Treat any advertised travel time as a prompt for checking, not as the basis of the decision.

Laude San Pedro: distinguish the British and Spanish pathways

Laude San Pedro’s published learning stages include a British pathway through A-Levels and Spanish ESO and Bachillerato routes. Its contact address is in Nueva Alcántara, San Pedro de Alcántara. Confirm which pathway, year and subject combination you are discussing before comparing it with another school.

For a family moving between education systems, language and continuity deserve a specific conversation. Ask what previous school records are needed, how placement works and what additional preparation may be appropriate. The existence of more than one route does not mean that a switch between them is automatic or suitable at every stage.

San Pedro and Guadalmina can be included in an initial housing search, with journeys tested from individual addresses. Do not assume that the nearest property on a small map gives the simplest arrival and collection routine. The exact gate, parking arrangements and the rest of the family’s schedule will matter more than a general claim of being close to schools.

Turn interest into a clear admissions position

For each school, ask the same opening questions: which year would the child enter, is there a place for the intended date, what assessment is needed, and what remains to be completed? Keep the school’s written answer with the housing brief. An enquiry, an application and a confirmed place are different stages of planning.

Aloha’s admissions information distinguishes a firm offer from a waiting-list offer. It also sets English-language expectations, with exceptions for Nursery and Reception. Those published distinctions show why a family should discuss the child’s circumstances directly rather than rely on a generic statement that an international school welcomes overseas pupils.

Share relevant learning or language-support needs with the admissions team early, using the school’s own process. Ask what support can actually be provided, by whom and on what terms. If siblings receive different answers, revisit the travel and housing brief before treating one proposed school as a settled choice for the entire family.

Request a complete school budget for the right academic year

Ask each school for a dated fee schedule for the child’s year group and intended academic year. A fee found in an old brochure is not a reliable relocation budget. If entry is during a term, request the exact amount and payment schedule applicable to that start date rather than dividing an annual figure yourself.

Separate tuition from possible application, registration or reservation payments, transport, meals, uniforms, devices, examinations, trips and activities. Not every item applies to every school. The purpose of the list is to establish what is included, what is optional and what is payable in addition, using the school’s written terms.

For several children, ask about any relevant sibling arrangements and conditions, without assuming a discount. Record cancellation and withdrawal notice requirements alongside the payment dates. Keep this school budget separate from property acquisition and home maintenance costs so that a change in the housing shortlist does not obscure the educational commitment.

Test a whole school day, including the return journey

A useful route check starts at the home’s exit and ends at the entrance the child will use. Repeat it at the relevant time on a school day, then check the return and the parents’ next destination. Note where you wait, where you can stop and whether a second child needs to be taken elsewhere.

For a school-bus option, confirm the current stop, pickup and return arrangements, eligibility and whether it accommodates the child’s activities. A bus serving an area does not establish a stop outside a particular home. If the route is central to your choice, obtain the current details before treating it as settled.

Consider the less regular days as well: an early collection, an evening event, a parent working elsewhere or a child staying for sport. A routine that works only when one adult is always available may not fit the household. We have not measured journeys for the properties below; they should be tested individually.

From school conversations to a focused property shortlist

Once the educational options are realistic, group homes by their actual location and household fit. Nueva Andalucía, Sierra Blanca, Marbella East and Guadalmina offer different starting points for the search. These are not catchment guarantees or promises of easy journeys to the four schools. Each proposed address still needs its own route check.

The following catalogue selection includes Villa Riva in Nueva Andalucía, Mozart 37 in Sierra Blanca, Las Chapas 5 in Marbella East and Guadalmina 720 in Guadalmina Alta. All were publicly listed and not marked sold in our catalogue check on 13 October 2026. Their different sizes and asking prices illustrate alternative family-home formats, not a ranking by school access.

Keep at least one alternative until the main questions are answered. If the preferred school cannot offer the intended place or the journey proves unsuitable, a clear alternative area can prevent the family from trying to force a school decision around a house already chosen for its photographs.

Compare the home’s family layout as carefully as its address

Villa Riva is listed at €2,775,000 with four bedrooms and 264 m² built. Mozart 37 is a different scale of home: €11,950,000, six bedrooms, 1,107 m² built and a 3,196 m² plot. Las Chapas 5 is listed at €5,875,000 with five bedrooms and 837 m² built; Guadalmina 720 at €5,995,000 with six bedrooms and 1,057 m² built.

The table keeps built areas, terraces and plots separate. A missing terrace figure for Mozart 37 means that no figure is supplied, not that the home has no terraces. Catalogue measurements require confirmation against plans and documents. Neither a larger plot nor a larger built area establishes how well the bedrooms, study space and everyday living areas will work for your family.

During a viewing, identify where school bags, sports equipment and coats would be kept; where homework and calls could happen at the same time; and whether guest accommodation would displace a child’s room or a parent’s office. Look at circulation between kitchen, bedrooms, parking and outdoor space. Ask appropriate specialists about any safety adaptations the household needs instead of inferring suitability from the description.

Prices are dated catalogue asking prices, not confirmed transaction values or complete purchase budgets. Availability and inclusions need reconfirmation before visits. The properties are examples for a housing conversation; no school endorses them through this article.

Use the school visit to resolve specific questions

Arrange school appointments before building a tightly packed property itinerary. Ask to meet the person best placed to discuss the intended year group and any transition concerns. Bring the child’s questions as well as your own, and leave enough time afterwards to record what was confirmed and what still requires a response.

Use one comparison sheet for all four schools. Record educational fit, admissions position, support discussed, total quoted costs, campus and transport. Distinguish information confirmed in writing from an impression formed during a tour. This makes the later property discussion more precise and helps both parents work from the same understanding.

  1. Confirm the intended programme, year group, subjects and start date.
  2. Clarify available places, assessments and remaining admissions steps.
  3. Discuss language, learning support and how a new pupil is helped to settle.
  4. Obtain current fees, payment terms and the relevant transport information.
  5. Test the journey from each finalist home and consider the whole family’s day.

Common questions about schools and buying a home

Which is the best international school in Marbella? This guide does not rank schools. The useful shortlist depends on the child’s stage, programme, support needs and realistic admissions position. A school that suits one sibling may require a different conversation for another.

Does buying near a school secure admission? Do not assume so. Confirm admission directly with the school and keep it separate from the property transaction. A real-estate address or an agent’s description is not an offer of a school place.

Can the property search begin before acceptance? Yes, as an exploratory search with a flexible brief. Avoid making the entire housing decision depend on a school option that remains uncertain.

Should we choose the house with the shortest route? Consider the route alongside layout, daily services and family routines. The aim is a home and school combination that works through an ordinary week, including activities and changes of plan.

Sources & editorial notes

School locations and programme references were checked against the linked official school pages on 13 October 2026. This is a practical shortlist, not a ranking or a complete directory. Admissions, subject choices, support, fees and transport need confirmation with each school. Property figures and photographs come from the Amalthea catalogue on the same date; prices are asking prices and availability requires reconfirmation. No school visits, measured commutes or guaranteed admissions are claimed.
